When an elephant farts

From Phnom Penh we made our way east to Kompong Cham. On the way, we stopped at a famous road side eatery, Skuol, were they serve deep fried spiders, crickets and bugs. There was a tour group on the bus with us, and some sampled the eight legged delicacies. Not I sir. No chance. (more…)

Yay! At long last. Bangkok has come up trumps. There are photos to be found in the right column of any page – just scroll down a bit. To see biggeruns, just click!

We’re in Bangkok and have been since last Thursday lunchtime. Quite a shock to the system this city has been – things are a little more advanced here than our previous destinations. It’s a bit like being on the set of Futurama or indeed just the future…

We leave this Thursday (paperwork pending, touch wood) for Cambodia by train. Apparently, things are a little strained between Thailand and Cambodia at the moment. Something to do with a convicted ex Prime Minister being hired over the border on economic duties. All means nothing to us of course, except we’re a little worried about the crossing… We’ll let you know.

What else? Skyscrapers, 3D cinemas, supercars on the 6th floor, new teeth, south-east Asia’s largest aquarium in the basement of a shopping mall and the largest food court possibly on Earth, amazing temples, friendly locals but lots and lots of liars telling us everything shut and we’d be much more comfortable in their nice air conditioned shop several miles away. Bangkok is awesome! We’re staying on the Khoa San road, which Mr. Peter will no doubt tell you is a little nuts.

Missed our train to Pondicherry from Madurai. Went for a meal on a roof top restaurant as the sun went down after visiting the Mahatma Ghandi museum. Saw massive bats flying overhead, must have been fruit bats. The museum was very insightful: we learned about India and the times of the British raj. It was a little depressing but it’s been interesting over the past month discovering how India is coping with it’s relatively new found independence. (more…)
